On Saturday afternoon (May 21), a suspected suicide was discovered in Macau’s Cotai district. A 69-year-old man surnamed Lam was found hanged in the Venetian Hotel near the loading dock. Police have advised that the man was the owner of a food supplier.

At 16:15 on Saturday a member of management staff went to work in the loading dock area and found the man at the scene, and immediately called the police.

The case was initially taken over by the Public Security Police (PSP), and later handed over to the Polícia Judiciária (PJ) for follow-up. The PJ pointed out that Lam was the owner of one of the resort’s food suppliers. At around 11:00 on May 21, a staff member saw Lam still delivering goods, and reported there was nothing unusual about Lam at that time and there was no apparent argument or dispute with Lam.

After examination of the body, there was an obvious strangulation mark on the neck of the deceased, and the strangulation mark matched the shape of the nylon rope used in the hanging.

“There were no signs of struggle at the scene and no suicide note was found at the scene”, the PJ said.

The case was initially treated as a “found body”, and the cause of death was then determined by forensic examination.

The Social Welfare Bureau urges the public to take care of themselves, their families, and friends.
