The Macao SAR Government has lifted a lockdown imposed on certain areas of the city after Macau reached 14 consecutive days without any new cases of COVID-19.
Authorities conducted a mass testing blitz of all citizens earlier this month after a family of four recently returned from Zhuhai tested positive to COVID-19 – the first community cases of the virus in Macau in 18 months. In response, the government blocked the family’s residential and working areas, and declared them a red zone, in order to prevent any possible spread in the city.
However, the testing blitz returned no more positive results and that trend has now continued for two weeks as of 17 August.
Residents living in those red zones have all been tested at least six times each since 3 August with all results coming back negative. As a result, their health codes have been reverted back to green, which allows them to enter all public areas including casinos.
As previously reported by IAG, entertainment facilities have resumed operations as of Wednesday. These facilities include cinemas, theaters, indoor amusement parks, game centers, cybercafes, billiard rooms, bowling centers, saunas, massage parlors, beauty salons, gyms, health clubs, karaoke lounges, bars, nightclubs, discotheques, dance parlors and cabaret venues. Casinos were exempt from the original closure order.
