Six of Jeju’s eight casinos now closed

Just two of the eight casinos on South Korea’s Jeju Island are currently operational after it was revealed that Gongzi Jeju has become the sixth to close its doors over the past 12 months.

Gongzi Jeju joins MegaLuck, Royal Palace, Yalanwan and Bloomberry Resorts’ Jeju Sun – which all suspended operations last year due to the impact of the COVID-19 – as well as Lotte Tour Development’s LT Casino which closed earlier this month in order to relocate to Jeju Dream Tower.

The new casino at Jeju Dream Tower is scheduled to open in May.

With six casinos now closed, only two are currently operational – Landing Casino at Jeju Shinhwa World and Paradise Co’s Paradise Casino Jeju Grand.

As previously reported by IAG, casino sales on Jeju fell by almost 65% year-on-year to just KRW69.30 billion (US$61.5 million) in 2020 – well down on the island’s 2017 record of KRW432.73 billion (US$384 million).
