Macau’s casino workers will be required to wear face masks while on the job for at least another six months, according to a new Health Bureau measure published in the city’s Official Gazette this week.
The measure will remain effective until 22 March 2021, extending the order to 14 months after the director of the Health Bureau issued the original notice on 22 January 2020 in accordance with the provisions of Law No. 2/2004 on the Prevention and Treatment of Infectious Diseases.
The wearing of face masks is seen as a key measure in preventing the spread of COVID-19. It was also one of several requirements outlined by Macau’s Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau to operators following a 15-day closure of all casinos in the SAR in February, along with mandatory temperature checks on all guests and staff at entrances and, at the time, prohibiting the admission of any guests who entered into Macau from Hubei Province.
More restrictions on mainland Chinese visitation to Macau were eased on Wednesday with the reinstatement of the Individual Visit Scheme (IVS) for all provinces in China. The issuance of visas under IVS takes seven days, opening the door for the first approvals to be ready just in time for the October Golden Week.
IVS was reinstated for residents of Zhuhai on 12 August and Guangdong Province on 26 August.
