The number of dealers working in Macau’s gaming industry grew 1.7% in the three months to 31 December 2017, up to 24,453 according to the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
The increase contributed to a 1.5% rise in full-time employees working within the sector to 56,634 as the number of newly hired employees surged 129.3% year-on-year to 1,518.
The recruitment rate increased 1.5% year-on-year to 2.7% while the vacancy rate was down 0.2 percentage points to 0.8%.
“These indicators suggested that some of the vacancies in the gaming sector have already been filled,” the DSEC said in a release.
Average earnings for full-time employees in the sector in December 2017 was up 4.3% year-on-year to MOP$22,940 (US$2,848). Dealers’ average earnings increased 5.4% to MOP$19,850. The data excluded bonuses.
Other results of the survey showed that 87.4% of the recruitment prerequisites included senior secondary education or lower and 38.7% previous work experience. Regarding the required language skills, 90% demanded Mandarin and 31.1% English.
The number of the vacancies in the fourth quarter of 2017 totaled 460, down 95 compared to the same quarter of 2016.
The DSEC also said that 103,487 participants attended training courses provided by the enterprises during 2017. The figure shows a 98.9% year-on-year increase.
