A trade mission by the Dublin Chamber of Commerce gathered in Macau this week ahead of the launch of a new direct flight route from Dublin to Hong Kong this year.
Delegates including CEO of Dublin Chamber Mary Rose Bourke and CEO of Tourism Ireland Niall Gibbons were given a tour of Wynn Macau on Wednesday before attending a lunch seminar hosted by Wynn Macau Chief Operating Officer Ciarán Carruthers, Chairman of Hamilton Advisors and Vice-Chairman of AmCham Robert Grieves and Chairman of the Irish Chamber of Commerce in Macau, Niall Murray.
“From speaking to the delegates who had a superb briefing on opportunities in Macau and on lessons for the Irish tourism sector, it is clear that there is increased focus in Ireland on the Macau market,” explained Irish Consul General to Hong Kong and Macau, Peter Ryan.
“With the introduction of the direct flight from Hong Kong to Dublin in June, there has never been a better time to build on the flourishing links between Ireland and Macau in the areas of business, tourism, education and culture. We are all very excited for the period ahead.”
The new Hong Kong-Dublin route, to be operated by Cathay Pacific, will run four times per week and is the first ever direct route from Dublin Airport to the Asia-Pacific region.
It is expected that the route will see a significant increase on the roughly 40,000 people that currently travel between Dublin and Hong Kong each year.
