Tsukasa Akimoto, the lower house representative currently on bail after being charged with bribery in a corruption case involving IRs, will hold a lunch study session as a political fundraiser at the Parliamentary Museum on 25 March.
According to Kyodo News, this will be the first time since he was released on bail that he has attended the paid regular study session.
The topic is the LDP Secretary General’s office, with Representative Motoo Hayashi of the LDP as speaker. According to a report drafted by Akimoto’s supporter group, “Finally, Mr Akimoto has returned and resumed his political activities. He is ready to get back to work.”
The attendance fee is JPY 10,000. Speaker Hayashi is in Toshihiro Nikai’s caucus. Akimoto is also a member of this caucus even after leaving the LDP. Toshihiro Nikai (LDP) leads his caucus and represents Wakayama’s 3rd district. Wakayama prefecture is one of the local governments aiming for an IR bid.
Akimoto was the senior vice minister for the cabinet office managing IR. He was indicted for receiving bribes between September 2017 and February 2018 from Chinese online gaming company 500.com, which was looking to invest in a Japanese IR.
Akimoto was released from the Tokyo Detention House after making bail of JPY 30 million.
