Genting Singapore has upped the ante in its pursuit of a Japan IR license with the establishment of a new branch office in Tokyo.
In a Wednesday announcement, the company said the purpose of the “Genting Singapore PLC, Japan Branch” was, “Development and management of the leisure and hospitality business; provision of administration and resource support including research and market studies, investment and promotion in connection with the foregoing; and any and all businesses incidental or related to each of the foregoing.”
Genting Singapore, which operates Resorts World Sentosa, last year sold its stake in Korea’s Resorts World Jeju to focus more resources on bidding for a Japan license.
Establishment of the Japan office comes despite Prime Minister Shinzo Abe’s government confirming this week that no progress would be made on implementing the long-awaited IR Implementation Bill until at least 2018.
