Former Chairman James Packer has rejoined the Crown Resorts board.
In a filing to the Australian Securities Exchange on Thursday, the company confirmed that Mr Packer’s appointment had “become effective today following the receipt of all necessary consent and approvals.” He had originally stepped down in 2015.
Guy Jalland, who took over from Robert Rankin as CEO of Mr Packer’s private investment firm Consolidated Press Holdings earlier this year, has also been appointed as a director.
“I would like to welcome James back to the Board of Crown,” said Crown Resorts Executive Chairman John Alexander. “Crown values the experience and contribution that each of James and Guy Jalland will bring to the Board.”
Mr Packer’s return comes just a week before the release of the last five Crown Resorts employees jailed in China for promoting gambling, including the company’s head of international VIP operations Jason O’Connor. It also follows an eventful start to 2017 for the company, namely the sale of its remaining stake in Melco Resorts after nine years as partners.
Crown Resorts is due to release its annual financial results later today.
