MGM has taken a proactive approach to serving local senior citizens with its innovative programs “Love Flows Through” and “Haircut for Love” in July, continuing its efforts in caring for the community of Macau.
MGM initiated its “Love Flows Through” program to provide complimentary maintenance of household electrical appliances and installations to a total of 30 senior citizens, in a bid to enhance their safety and well-being at home. Leveraging their technical know-how, a team of electrical technicians from Facilities Management led by Mr Mel Hansen, Senior Vice President of Design, Development & Construction of MGM, whom joined forces with MGM Volunteer Team members, visited the Fai Chi Kei Social Housing Unit to help repair and replace the seniors’ appliance plugs. In addition, the Company took an extra mile and prepared homemade nourishing soups served in MGM-themed thermos mugs, together with some basic food and daily necessities, for the senior citizens.
Mr Edmond Choi, Executive Director of Facilities Management Operations who first participated in this program, said, “Replacing appliance plugs is just a small gesture, but it can improve the elderly’s livelihood. I can feel their joy while we help to repair and chat with them, especially those elderly who live alone. Sometimes we are so busy that we may ignore the need in the community, but this volunteer experience reminds me that it is very important to continue to serve the community and we can make a big difference to other people’s daily lives.”
MGM hosted the “Haircut for Love” program between 25 and 27 July 25. A total of 15 Volunteer Haircut Team members set out to three local elderly centers, including Seac Pai Van Family and Community Service Center of General Union of Neighborhood Association of Macau, Mong Ha Elderly Center of Macao Federation of Trade Unions and Yee Hong Center of Women’s General Association of Macau. The Team offered complimentary haircut services to 180 senior citizens, including seniors with mobility impairment, to give them refreshing summer makeovers.
“MGM Volunteers are so warm at heart.” one of the elderly, Ms. Fong from Seac Pai Van Family and Community Service Center of General Union of Neighborhood Association of Macau said. “They not only do my haircut, but they are also very concerned on how I want it done. They listen mindfully to what I want and try their very best to fulfil. My new hairstyle as well as the gift set have made my day.”
Established in 2015, the MGM Volunteer Haircut Team with over 30 members dedicates free time to providing complimentary haircuts for local senior citizens on a monthly basis. Today, the number of beneficiaries has grown to over 1,200, with a positive community feedback.
