Adelaide Casino will become the latest Australian property to be given a multi-million dollar facelift after owner Sky City Entertainment revealed it has signed a Development Agreement with the South Australian government.
The AU$330 redevelopment, due for completion in 2020, will include an extra hotel floor with the number of rooms to increase to 123 from the current 89, a rooftop bar and restaurant, function space for up to 750 people and a new 1,500 space carpark.
Gaming facilities will also be expanded to make room for an estimated 30% more gaming product, with the casino to re-open with 140 gaming tables, 1,100 slot machines and 100 automated table games.
The agreement includes changes to the rules governing high-roller areas, primarily a lowering of the annual threshold to qualify as a premium customer from AU$12,000 to AU$8,000 and an increase in the number of guest passes those customers are allowed from one to four.
“A majority of these initiatives have been designed to attract more interstate and overseas tourists to South Australia and for the Adelaide Casino to better compete with casinos interstate and overseas,” the government said in a statement.
However, “The Government has been very clear with the Adelaide Casino that they must have systems in place to identify and prevent problem gamblers from accessing premium gaming areas.”
