Two mainland Chinese men have been arrested after they were caught using HK$1 million worth of counterfeit chips at one of Macau’s Cotai casinos.
The Judiciary Police were contacted by the casino last Saturday 22 July claiming that two men were found using counterfeit chips. Upon arrival, it was revealed that the men had arrived in Macau earlier that day before contacting an accomplice who gave them 100 counterfeit chips worth HK$10,000 each.
They then proceeded to use HK$350,000 worth of those chips both at the cage and the tables before they were detected by a dealer.
Officers found 85 counterfeit chips on the men and gaming tables but believe the duo are part of a wider syndicate, with six similar cases having been reported from the same casino since 19 July involving 35 counterfeit chips with a face value of HKD10,000.
The Judiciary Police transferred the two involved men to the Public Prosecutions Office with the charge of fraud (considerably large amount), while continue pursuing the persons at large.
