Gongzi Jeju Casino, located inside Ramada Plaza Jeju Hotel on the Korean resort island of Jeju, has opened for business after holding its official launch party this week.
Covering 40,000 square meters with 45 gaming tables and 24 slot machines, Gongzi Jeju Casino is the latest foreigner-only casino in South Korea and follows extensive renovations to the property.
In an announcement following Tuesday’s launch, Chief Operating Officer Lysa Evans said, “We have brought to Jeju all the latest gaming technologies and gaming integrity parallels to Macau, Singapore and other world class gaming destinations.
“Our Gongzi owner’s vision was to create a gaming experience in a location that was accessible, with fantastic natural scenery and relaxing entertainment.”
The announcement states that Air Macao has recently launched direct flights between Macau and Jeju, with Gongzi Jeju Casino located just 10 minutes from Jeju International Airport.
However, the casino’s launch comes at a bad time with recent figures showing the number of Chinese tourists travelling to the resort island is down by 89% as a result of the fallout from the THAAD missile spat.
Chinese tourist arrivals in Jeju fell 56.2% in March, 88.1% in April, 89.6% in May and 89.3% in June, while 117,828 Chinese tourists who had booked trips between July and October through 30 Chinese tourist agencies having since cancelled.
