Crown Resorts has announced the appointment of former federal minister Helen Coonan as new Chair of its Audit and Corporate Governance Commission. Coonan replaces Ben Brazil, who resigned on 12 April, while Company Secretary Michael Nielson is also stepping down from his role as part of the company’s restructure of its legal and compliance functions.
Crown Resorts Executive Chairman John Alexander said that Mary Manos will continue to act as Company Secretary and will also become General Counsel.
“On behalf of the Crown Board, I would like to thank Michael for 13 years of dedicated service to the Company,” Mr Alexander said. “During that time Michael played a key role in managing the legal, compliance and regulatory functions across the Crown Group and in a number of jurisdictions.”
Coonan joins Crown Resorts following a distinguished political career in which she served in the John Howard government as Minister for Revenue and Assistant Treasurer between 2001 and 2004 and Minister for Communications, Information Technology and the Arts between 2004 and 2007.
She was also a Senator for NSW between 1996 and 2011.
