Travellers International Hotel Group Inc, which operates Resorts World Manila, says it will do whatever it takes to “preserve and defend” the company’s provisional gaming license after it was temporarily suspended by Philippines gaming regulator Pagcor.
In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Tuesday, Travellers acknowledged the suspension of its license to operate casinos and other gaming facilities pending the investigation and final determination by Pagcor of any liability for the attack by lone wolf Jessie Carlos on 2 June that saw 38 people lose their lives.
It also confirmed that it would abide by the order and fully cooperate with authorities in their investigation. However, Travellers added, “The Company assures its stakeholders that all efforts shall be exerted to preserve and defend the Company’s Provisional License.”
The disclosure follows Pagcor’s announcement last Friday that it had suspended the company’s gaming license and that the suspension “will remain until RWM rectifies its serious security lapses and deficiencies – which caused not only the loss of lives and damaged properties – but also placed the Philippine gaming, tourism and hospitality industries in a bad light.
“Non-compliance with the order shall cause Pagcor to impose other sanctions as may be warranted under existing laws. Pagcor is also requiring all integrated resorts to submit security and safety protocols to make sure that this will not happen again.”
