The number of people employed by Macau’s gaming and junket industries in the three months to 30 September 2019 fell by 2,200 people from the previous quarter to a total of 84,900, according to information published by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Gaming and Junkets continued to employ more people than any other industry, with its 84,900 employees more than double the next most prominent sector, Wholesale and Trade, which employed 41,800.
Recreational, Cultural, Gaming and Other Services comprised 25.0% of all employees ahead of Hotels, Restaurants and Similar Activities at 14.6%.
At an average of MOP$20,000 per month, Wages within Gaming and Junkets continued to outperform the general rate of MOP$17,000 per month.
The DSEC’s quarterly data also revealed a slight increase in the number of unemployed Macau-wide with 1.8% of the population unemployed, up by 0.1 percentage points compared with 2Q19, and 2.5% of residents unemployed – a 0.2 percentage point increase.
