The Taipa Ferry Terminal will officially open its doors on Thursday, the Marine and Water Bureau announced. The building has been immersed in controversy due to the lengthy construction period, numerous delays and vastly overblown budget.
In total it took the Pac On Ferry Terminal 11 years to be completed and cost the Government MOP$3.8 billion – six times higher than initially forecast.
Nevertheless, the new terminal will be an important infrastructure addition to a city that receives around 30 million tourists annually. As of this moment, the ferry companies operating at the temporary Taipa ferry terminal are TurboJET, Cotai Water Jet and Yuet Tung. There has been no announcement as to whether this will change.
According to government sources, the Pac On Ferry Terminal will have the capacity to welcome 400,000 people on a daily basis. It is equipped with over 40 ticket counters, five helicopter pads, 1,000 car parking spaces and 14 berths in an area three times larger than Macau International Airport.
