By Raquel Dias

The Health Bureau has revealed that of the 78 water samples collected at The Parisian Macao on 21 April 2017, 10 showed abnormal levels of the Legionella pneumophila bacteria. Anomalies were also detected in the redistributed water chlorination system, as well as showing residual chlorine insufficiency.

The resort was required to immediately substitute all water outlet parts. However, no bacteria were found on samples collected in the swimming pools, whirlpools and fountains of the property.

The samples were collected at The Parisian after the Health Bureau was alerted by authorities in Hong Kong of three cases of Legionnaires’ disease involving people that had recently stayed at the resort.

The Health Bureau said in a statement that the hotel had already implemented improvement measures and that the Bureau had since performed a second collection of water samples.

The 78 samples were collected from a range of locations around the property including the pool, shower rooms, hotel rooms and bathrooms.
