During a wide ranging exclusive interview for the June issue of Inside Asian Gaming, Galaxy Entertainment Group President Michael Mecca said, “today just reinforced everything we have discovered over the last couple of years.”
“Doing business in Japan is a very special opportunity,” he said at yesterday’s Japan Gaming Congress being held at the Grand Hyatt in Tokyo.
“Japan is very interested in developing the IR business in a very Japanese way. The resort itself has to be iconic to the city and prefecture of where we are doing business.
“In all of our conversations with the government and corporations their focus has been that they want the resorts to be incredibly special, they want them to represent Japan and the city and the prefecture where they are going to be built and they recognize that in order to do that there has got to be a significant investment.
“Certainly every IR company would like to be selected to be part of an IR in Japan. We believe because of our partnership in Monaco [with Société des Bains de Mer, owner and operator of the Principality’s Monte Carlo Casino] and the work we have been doing in Japan over the last two and a half years, as more government and corporate entities learn about the business philosophy of Galaxy we are learning that this fits in very well to the concept of an IR in Japan.”
The Japan Gaming Congress continues today.
