Led by Macau law firm MdME, worldwide legal collaborative Lex Mundi will launch its new Global Gaming Law Guide at G2E Asia 2017.

The guide is published by O MEDIA.

G2E Asia has long provided a high profile opportunity for companies within the global gaming industry to launch new products and ideas, however this year’s show will play host to one of the most unique initiatives in G2E Asia’s 11-year history.

Wednesday 17 May – Day 2 of G2E Asia – will see the launch of the inaugural Lex Mundi Global Gaming Law Guide in a ceremony to be held at the commencement of the Regulators’ Luncheon Event.

The brainchild of Macau law firm MdME, Lex Mundi is a collaboration of law firms from over 100 countries with expertize in the gaming industry, allowing member firms to offer clients an integrated solution to their legal and regulatory needs across multiple jurisdictions.

“Lex Mundi member firms are top-tier law firms in their respective jurisdictions and among the most experienced and knowledgeable in the world,” explained MdME Partner Rui Pinto Proença.

“They deliver indigenous insight, a market-specific focus and global connections to a diverse range of domestic and international clients. Each member firm is admitted only after substantial due diligence and must undergo regular quality and peer review procedures in order to retain membership in the exclusive Lex Mundi network.

“The gaming industry is and continues to be a complex, highly regulated industry.  With the continued growth of business and investment opportunities around the globe, clients need to navigate current and emerging regulatory and jurisdictional issues that may impact their business strategies and tactics.

“Member firms have the local-market knowledge, experience and understanding necessary to handle clients’ complex challenges and opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions; private equity; project finance; capital markets (debt and equity); litigation and dispute resolution; corporate governance; intellectual property; real estate; and labor and workforce issues in a wide variety of industry sectors.”

Lex Mundi’s key initiative is the Lex Mundi Global Gaming Law Guide. Aiming to provide a better understanding of the laws governing gaming in key jurisdictions, this first edition to be launched at G2E Asia includes contributions from 23 member firms representing 26 jurisdictions across five regions – North America, Latin America, Europe, Asia Pacific and Africa.

The information has been compiled by Lex Mundi member firm lawyers who specialize in the practice of gaming law and are regularly called upon to advise their clients on such matters.

Issues addressed in the guide for each jurisdiction include:

• What is prohibited or regulated gambling

• How the advertising and promotion of gambling is regulated

• The effect of legislative prohibitions outside the territory of enactment

• Whether licenses are available to conduct gambling activities and if so, on what terms

• Whether there are any restrictions on the use of hardware or software for gambling purposes

• How gambling revenue is taxed

• The applicability and requirements of anti-money laundering laws to gambling transactions

Explaining the importance of the Lex Mundi Global Gaming Law Guide, Mr Proença said, “Around the world, businesses and participants face legal issues in the gaming industry that affect a number of representatives including operators, investors, software developers, payment services providers, advertisers, equipment vendors, agents, intermediaries and players.

“Although there are other gaming guides on the market, what differentiates the Global Gaming Law Guide is not only the in-depth expertize of its contributors but also the fact that it will be freely accessible in an interactive online format with comparative tools.”

Users can access an online interactive version of the Lex  Mundi Global Gaming Law Guide at www.lexmundi.com/GlobalGamingLawGuide. The interactive guide allows for a country report and a comparison report between two or more jurisdictions to be viewed and downloaded at the reader’s convenience.
