South Korea will consider moving its state lottery service online from 2018 with citizens able to purchase tickets from home or on their mobile devices for the first time.
According to a report in the Korea Times, The Ministry of Strategy and Finance made the decision during a recent Korea Lottery Commission meeting as a means of boosting convenience.
Online availability would be limited to 5% of all tickets, however, with buyers needing to go through a detailed identification process first.
Lotto tickets in Korea cost ₩1,000 (HK$7) with sales reaching a record ₩3.55 trillion (HK$23.6 billion) in 2016 ($3.04 billion) – a 9% increase on 2015 sales.
