Chiba city announced on Tuesday that it would start collecting information from private companies to assess an IR bid. Information such as concepts and economic impact will be collected from companies who are considering participating in the IR process.
The Nikkei reports that registrations will be accepted from August with findings to be announced before the end of the year.
The information provided will be the base in determining whether the city will bid for an IR. It is expected that momentum for a bid will be boosted depending on the results.
Companies and organizations will register from 8 to 22 August and submit their information between 15 and 28 October. Data will also be collected on requirements for a location and development criteria along with measures to tackle problem gambling and other security issues.
The city will conduct individual hearings from November to confirm the intentions of the companies and organizations who have submitted information. A summary of the findings will be published for residents.
The IR Implementation Act has provision for three facilities across the country and Chiba has not moved from its position of considering bidding to become one of these locations. In May, there was a proposal to build an IR in Makuhari New City presented by 10 companies in the city.
Mayor Toshihito Kumagai stated, “We have decided to request information to hear opinions regarding feasibility from private enterprises.”
