MGM Resorts Japan CEO Ed Bowers says the company expects only minimal disruption from the national government’s decision to delay the announcement of its Fundamental Policy on IRs.

Speaking at the latest in a series of seminars being held alongside an IR exhibition at the Grand Front Osaka hotel, aimed at increasing the understanding of residents towards IRs, Bowers said nothing had changed from MGM’s point of view with the target of opening in 2024 still very much on the cards.

“We believe the delay to be only a few months and don’t expect it to have a big impact,” he said. “It does not change our Osaka First policy.”

With a number of MGM executives speaking at the seminar, the company was careful not to speak out of turn with one adding, “We will follow all government decisions as we proceed” and “it is important that we understand the needs of residents and gain their understanding.”

Osaka city and prefecture officials have made it clear they are still targeting a 2024 opening for an IR in Osaka.
