Fire has ripped through 18 floors of the Genting Crown Casino building in Poipet, Cambodia overnight.

Fresh News Asia reported that calls for help were received shortly after 22:00 last night, with firefighters arriving to find the building ablaze and smoke pouring into the night sky.

Some reports claim that the fire started on the first floor, which forms part of the Genting Crown Casino complex, before climbing upwards into residential apartments.

A number of people are believed to have been trapped in the building by the blaze although it is unknown at this stage if there are any casualties. It is also unknown as to how the fire started.

Genting Crown Casino, which has no affiliation to Malaysia’s Genting Group, launched in 1999 and was one of Cambodia’s first licensed casinos.

Hong Kong-listed Amax International signed a three-year deal in December 2017 to operate a VIP room at the property with 13 VIP baccarat tables – helping Amax boost its revenue from HK$10.5 million to HK$62.3 million in the first six months of 2018.
