Figures released by the Macau Government Tourism Office show record Lunar New Year visitation setting all-time records.
Mainland visitation hit 114,363 yesterday, up 36% over Day 3 of the 2012 holiday. That’s also 20% higher than the highest single day of New Year 2012 and 4% higher than last October’s Golden Week holiday peak of 109,973.
“This surge in visitation can be readily felt on the ground here in Macau,” writes Union Gaming Research Macau. “It has been clear to us that casinos are experiencing record levels of customers regardless of geography (Macau peninsula versus Cotai).
“Concurrent with the increased number of customers we have noted general increases in minimum bet sizes,” the firm added, “suggesting to us that the mass-market GGR story is particularly exciting for this holiday period based on the one-two punch of a greater number of visitors with an increased amount of spend.”
Day 3 visitation from all markets was 166,581, a 28% increase year on year and also a new Macau holiday record.
Total visitation the last six days is up 19% over the same period last year to 682,074.
