Visitation to Macau from the Chinese mainland hit 83,000 on Monday, the second day of the Lunar New Year holiday, a 30% increase over Day 2 last year.
Checks by Union Gaming Research Macau show a 26% increase in mainland visitation over the last five days to 328,000, aided by a network of shuttle busses reportedly deployed by local officials on the Zhuhai side of the border.
Total visitation through Day 2 from all sources increased 20% year on year to 134,305, UGR says. Over the last five days, total visitation has increased 17% to 515,493 persons.
“We expect today, Tuesday, to be the day that casino players start descending on Macau in earnest, with a concurrent positive GGR inflection,” the firm wrote in a note to investors. “We would look for this trend to continue through this coming Sunday and possibly through early next week.”
