Arrivals to Macau during China’s Golden Week grew 7.2% year-on-year in 2018 according to provisional data issued by the Public Security Police Force on Monday.
A total of 895,242 visitors arrived in Macau during the seven days from Monday 1 October to Sunday 7 October 2018, the period broadly known as Golden Week and considered one of the most important annual Chinese holidays. The number of mainland Chinese visiting Macau increased 14% to 734,910.
The arrivals peak was registered on Wednesday 3 October, with 147,996 people entering Macau including 127,803 from mainland China. However, the highest year-on-year percentage increase was recorded on Thursday, up 51.8% year-on-year to 138,122 visitors with the number of Chinese visitors that day growing 70.3% to 116,608.
The overall increase comes despite a soft weekend which saw Saturday’s visitor numbers fall 15.2% year-on-year and Sunday’s 22.8% year-on-year.
Over half of all arrivals (535,586) came via the Border Gate, followed by the Outer Harbour (119,263) and the Cotai Checkpoint (101,123).
