Macau’s hotels enjoyed an average occupancy rate of 92.9% in August, up 1.5 percentage points year-on-year on a higher take-up of 5-star and 4-star rooms.
According to information from the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC), the August occupancy rates included a 95.7% occupancy rate for 5-star hotel rooms, up 2.2 percentage points year-on-year, and an 88.2% occupancy rate for 4-star hotels, up 1.6 percentage points. The rate for 3-star hotels fell by 0.9 percentage points to 89.9%.
The total number of hotel guests in August increased by 3.0% year-on-year to 1,303,000, including a 2.4% rise in guests from mainland China to 991,000 and a 20.3% increase in those from international markets to 87,000. Of the international guests, those from Thailand jumped by 158% to 8,000 and those from the Republic of Korea by 6.0% to 28,000. Japan saw a 58% increase to around 10,000, Singapore a 36% increase to around 5,000 and Malaysia a 29% increase to around.
The average length of stay of guests remained at 1.6 nights in August.
For the first eight months of 2025 combined, the average occupancy rate of guest rooms of hotel establishments was 89.8%, up by 4.3 percentage points year-on-year with the total number of guests increasing by 0.1% to 9,791,000. The average length of stay of guests remained at 1.7 nights.
The DSEC said the number of inbound package tour visitors fell by 18.8% year-on-year to 162,000 in August including a 24.0% decline in those from the Chinese mainland to 142,000.
