Byron Yip, the former President and COO of Philippines integrated resort Okada Manila, will join Macau concessionaire Sands China Ltd (SCL) as Executive Vice President – Strategy, Inside Asian Gaming has learned.
In an internal memo seen by IAG, staff were informed that Yip will oversee the company’s analytics and strategy function, focusing on “leveraging our product strengths to deliver competitive business strategies”. He will also be appointed property head of The Venetian Macao and The Londoner Macao where he will oversee operations and P&L. In line with these responsibilities, Yip will join the SCL Executive Committee, the memo explained.
Wendy Ni, who previously worked under Yip at Okada Manila before recently joining SCL as SVP of Strategic Analysis, will again report to him.
Okada Manila operator Tiger Resort, Leisure and Entertainment Inc (TRLEI) announced in early August that Yip would depart after seven years, replaced by parent company Universal Entertainment Corp’s Senior Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer, Nobuki Sato.
Yip, who was named TRLEI’s COO in 2018 and President in 2020, previously spent eight years with Deutsche Bank, where he provided investment banking services to global gaming companies, before joining Union Gaming in 2016. He has also worked as an investment banker with TD Securities in Toronto, Canada and with Deloitte & Touche.
