Sands China has now welcomed more than 1.1 billion guests across its Macau integrated resorts, representing a significant milestone in its more than 20-year history operating in Macau, the company stated Thursday.
In an announcement that also coincided with the 18th anniversary of The Venetian Macao, Sands China said the 1.1 billion figure – celebrated via an official welcome ceremony – represented the cumulative total across its five Macau resorts: The Venetian Macao, The Londoner Macao, The Parisian Macao, The Plaza Macao and Sands Macao since the latter’s opening in 2004.
Cumulative investment in that time has now exceeded MOP$134.5 billion (US$16.8 billion), highlighting the company’s support of Macau’s development as a world tourism and leisure center.
Dr Wilfred Wong, Executive Vice Chairman of Sands China Ltd, said, “Surpassing 1.1 billion arrivals is not only a significant milestone for the company, but also a testament to the popularity of Macau’s tourism offerings and the vitality and sustainability of its economic development.
“This remarkable achievement would not have been made possible without the guidance and strong support of the central and SAR governments, the concerted efforts of our 27,000 team members, and the solidarity of over 2,500 suppliers. Sands China calls Macau home and we are committed to fulfilling our corporate social responsibility while actively giving back to our community. Moving forward, we will continue to work alongside Macau and invest in non-gaming projects to polish further its ‘golden business card’ as an international metropolis, showcasing its unique charm to both residents and visitors from around the world.”
Sands China’s integrated resorts currently offer over 10,000 hotel rooms, 150 dining options and 760 retail outlets, plus 150,000 square meters of meeting and convention space, two arenas and four large-scale theaters hosting international entertainment performances and with a combined seating capacity exceeding 25,000.
