The 2018 World Series of Poker (WSOP) main event kicks off today at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino in Las Vegas.
The planet’s single most prestigious poker tournament attracts players from right across the globe, with dozens of representatives from Asia to take their place in this year’s field including Inside Asian Gaming CEO Andrew W Scott. More than 7,000 players are expected to pay the US$10,000 entry fee over the course of three Day 1 flights, creating a prize pool of close to US$70 million with a top prize of over US$8 million for the winner.

The WSOP famously began in 1970 when Benny Binion invited seven of the world’s best players to the Horseshoe Casino in Las Vegas to compete against one another in a series of cash games, with the winner, Johnny Moss, decided by a vote from his peers.
Since then it has grown into an annual behemoth with this year’s WSOP – which kicked off on 28 May – featuring 78 gold bracelet events.
The main event itself will include a total of 10 competition days, not including the three separate Day 1 flights, with the final table to be played over three days from Thursday 12 to Saturday 14 July.
