Philippine conglomerate Alliance Global Group’s property arm Megaworld has inked a partnership agreement with global hotels giant Accor that will see some of its hotel brands activate under Megaworld Hotels & Resorts.
The first of these brands, Mercure, will debut within Megaworld’s 30-hectare Mactan Township in Cebu, where Belmont Hotel Mactan will transition into Mercure Mactan Cebu.
Mactan Township is where another Alliance Global Group subsidiary, Newport World Resorts operator Travellers International Hotel Group, is investing US$300 million to develop a casino-resort.
Accor’s 40 hotel brands also include the likes of Sofitel, Fairmont, Raffles, Swissotel and Pullman, some of which will likely open at MegaWorld developments around the country in future and be included in Accor’s loyalty program, ALL ACCOR.
“We are honored to collaborate with a top-notch hospitality group like Accor, which has established global industry leadership for its diverse and extensive portfolio, strong business performance, strategic growth initiatives and sustainability practices,” said MegaWorld Hotels & Resorts Managing Diorector, Cleofe Albiso.
Andrew Langdon, Chief Development Officer, Asia, Accor, added, “We are accelerating the growth of our Premium, Midscale & Economy (PM&E) Division with a focused strategy to expand in sought-after destinations across Asia. The Philippines remains a vital market for us, and the signing of Mercure Mactan Cebu is fully aligned with our ambition to meet the growing demand for hotels that serve both leisure and business travellers, driven by the continued rise of bleisure travel.
“With Mactan-Cebu International Airport among the country’s leading gateways, Cebu is fast emerging as a preferred destination for domestic and international visitors. We are proud to bring this locally inspired hotel to life in collaboration with Megaworld, a leading urban community developer with a strong track record of uplifting communities and contributing to national progress.”
