Benefiting from the May Day Golden Week holiday, Macau recorded 3,372,081 visitors in May, representing a year-on-year increase of 25.3%.
According to data from the Statistics and Census Service, the number of visitors from mainland China increased by 31.4% year-on-year to 2,439,936 in May, while visitors from Hong Kong and Taiwan also saw significant increases to 621,106 and 78,828 – up 6.7% and 14.3% respectively.
International visitors saw a 25.6% increase, reaching 232,211 – largely from the Southeast Asian market. This included a 59% increase in arrivals from the Philippines to 57,018, an 11.3% increase from Indonesia to 16,149 and a 43.1% increase from Thailand to 15,024.
The number of visitors from South Korea – up 22.8% to 41,765 – and Japan, up 36% to 13,500, also saw significant increases.
By entry channel, 2,780,906 visitors entered by various land border gates in May, accounting for 82.5% of the total, while 347,388 visitors arrived by sea, accounting for 10.3%, and 243,787 visitors arrived by air, accounting for 7.2%.
The number of same-day visitors was 1,992,296 and the number of overnight visitors 1,379,785, representing year-on-year increases of 39.2% and 9.4%, respectively.
For the first five months of 2025 combined, the total number of inbound tourists reached 16,327,537, representing a year-on-year increase of 15.2%.
