Recent tensions between Singapore’s duopoly casino operators Marina Bay Sands and Resorts World Sentosa show no signs of abating after RWS took the extraordinary measure of buying up all of the advertising space at the MRT station at Marina Bay Sands.
IAG understands that the extensive display – which showcases a new marine adventure experience as RWS’s S.E.A. Aquarium – was unveiled early Thursday morning local time, designed to reach the roughly 1 million travellers who pass through the station each month. IAG also understands that RWS holds a long-term option on the space.
The company’s installation covers around 120 square meters and includes three large wall ads, four pillar wraps and 10 MRT fare gates.
The timing of RWS’s MRT campaign is notable, coming just over a month after the company’s Chief Casino Officer, Andrew MacDonald, was issued with a Persona Non Grata (PNG) Notice from Marina Bay Sands, effectively banning him from the property. MacDonald spent almost 12 years working at MBS in key leadership roles before stepping down in late 2021 and joining its cross-town rival around 12 months later.
Both RWS and MBS declined to comment on the new advertising installation when contacted by IAG.
