A temporary outdoor performance venue for around 50,000 spectators is expected to be completed in November this year, the Macau Public Works Bureau (DSOP) has revealed.
The Macau government previously announced that a temporary outdoor performance venue with a capacity of 50,000 would be built in the open space next to Lisboeta in Cotai. The project, which began in August this year, will cost US$85 million and cover a total area of 94,000 square meters.
DSOP stated Monday that the temporary outdoor performance venue will be divided into four areas, including the admission waiting area (in yellow), stage/backup area (purple), audience area (blue) and evacuation buffer area (green).
The project mainly involves the construction of reinforced concrete platforms, supporting electrical and mechanical systems and drainage facilities, and the provision of portable function rooms inside the venue, such as toilets, offices for event teams and rest rooms.
The temporary venue was first announced earlier this year after Macau’s Secretary for Social Affairs and Culture, Elsie Ao Ieong, said in February that the government was looking for a large open space to accommodate concerts in the wake of Korean K-pop group Seventeen’s concerts at Macau’s Taipa Stadium on 20 and 21 January.
The concerts sparked controversy because of the location’s close proximity to residents with many having complained about the noise and lighting impacts of the concerts on neighboring residences.
