The 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event is officially underway, with play getting underway at the Horseshoe Las Vegas and Paris Las Vegas earlier this morning (Asia time).

All eyes will now be on the entry list over the next four days to see if 2024 can top last year’s Main Event, which attracted an all-time record starting field of 10,043 players and a US$93,339,900 prize pool – the largest in poker tournament history.

The final table is scheduled to take place on Tuesday 16 July.

Defending champion Daniel Weinman, who took home US$12.1 million by winning the 2023 Main Event, announced “Shuffle Up and Deal” this morning, stating, “This is the greatest poker tournament in the world. I plan on playing in this tournament for the rest of my life and am excited to see who gets their name up on the wall next to me … if I don’t do it again.”

Ty Stewart, Executive Director of the WSOP, added, “This has been the summer of legends and we’re ready to make another on the biggest stage in poker. We’re poised and ready for another record-breaking Main Event field, so with almost a week to register, we wish everyone safe travels in coming to take their shot.”

The 2024 WSOP has already proved to be a memorable one, with poker legend Phil Ivey winning his 11th WSOP bracelet to move into outright second on the all-time list behind Phil Hellmuth, while Daniel Negreanu broke an 11-year drought to win his seventh bracelet in the $50k Poker Players Championship.

Scott Seiver currently leads the WSOP Player of the Year race after winning three bracelets this summer.
