Macau’s last remaining satellite casino will close its doors for the last time at the end of the month, with SJM Resorts S.A. confirming that Casino Landmark would cease operations at 23:59pm on 30 December 2025.
With nine of the 11 satellites that were operational at the start of this year now shuttered, and the other – L’Arc – in the process of being wholly-acquired by SJM, Landmark will go down as the last satellite casino standing in Macau, holding on until just 24 hours before the government-mandated closure of all such properties.
It follows the recent closure of nearby Casino Fortuna on 9 December and the casino at Ponte 16 along the Inner Harbour in late November.
In its announcement, SJM said that all gaming tables and gaming machines currently operating at Casino Landmark will be redeployed to other self-promoted casinos of the company, while customers holding chips, deposits or cash rebates accumulated at Landmark that remain unredeemed after its closure may visit other self-promoted SJM casinos for follow-up arrangements.
Likewise, all local employees employed by SJM Resorts at Casino Landmark will remain employed and be reassigned to other casinos of the company to undertake gaming-related roles according to operational needs. Local employees who are not employed by SJM Resorts will be invited to apply for related vacancies within the Group with priority in hiring under equal circumstances.
The close of Macau’s satellites follows amendments made to Macau’s Gaming Law in 2022 which state that the operation of casinos by management companies under the license of a concessionaire was no longer permitted. However, the government at that time implemented a three-year grace period until 31 December 2025 in which time all satellites were to be closed or wholly acquired by a concessionaire.
Macau was at one time home to 22 satellite casinos, with 18 in operation when the new Gaming Law was passed in 2022.
