Vietnam has welcomed its highest ever number of visitor arrivals for the first 11 months of a year, with 19.2 million international visitors entering the country between January and November of this year according to latest information from the General Statistics Office.
The figure, as reported by VN Express, represents a 21% year-on-year increase and is already higher than the 17.6 million visitor arrivals in all of 2024. It also exceeds the total 18 million arrivals in 2019, before the COVID-19 pandemic.
Of the 19.2 million arrivals so far, 4.8 million are from mainland China – making it the main source tourism market – followed by South Korea with 3.9 million.
Mainland China remained the top source market between January and November, with 4.8 million arrivals, followed by South Korea (3.9 million).
VN Express said that tourism experts have contributed the increase to the easing visa policies – including the recent waiving of visa requirements for 12 European countries for stays of up to 45 days – plus expanded promotional campaigns and various large-scales events held to celebrate major national holidays.
Vietnam is targeting between 23 and 25 million international visitors in 2025.
While the significant rise in visitor arrivals will come as positive news to the country’s foreigner-only casinos, it also comes with the government having last month approved The Grand Ho Tram to take part in a five-year trial program under which locals will be permitted casino entry under certain conditions. Phu Quoc’s Corona Resort & Casino, which previously took part in a trial, has been granted permanent locals status.
