In a recent interview, the Director of the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO, Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes, said that visitors to Macau from Europe had recovered to 80% of 2019 levels in the first 10 months of this year. Efforts to promote Macau to international tourists will continue to be strengthened, she added.
As reported by IAG, Macau’s total visitor arrivals for the first 10 months of 2025 increased by 14.1% year-on-year, reaching 33,143,547. Foreign visitors accounted for 2,146,909 of those arrivals, a 13% increase compared to 2024.
In an interview with local media outlet TDM, Senna Fernandes noted that foreign visitation to Macau has shown strong recovery this year.
“The Southeast Asian market is recovering well and the Northeast Asian market is also performing favorably,” she stated during the interview.
“The government will launch online English and Spanish training programs for the tourism industry.”
Macau, she added, was recently selected as the ““APAVT Preferred International Destination” for 2026 by the Portuguese Travel Agents Association (APAVT) at its annual conference.
As such, “The government will participate in two tourism fairs held in Europe and is currently exploring cooperation with one of Portugal’s larger travel agencies to develop more new tourism products,” Senna Fernandes said.
The MGTO Director emphasized that the government’s promotional efforts aim to enhance European travel industry awareness of Macau tourism.
The Chief Executive’s recent Policy Address states that in 2026, the government will continue developing international visitor markets, with key focus areas including Northeast Asia, Southeast Asia and Portuguese-speaking countries, while simultaneously developing the Muslim visitor market.
The report also proposed establishing a new overseas government office in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, while simultaneously conducting site selection and evaluation for new offices in Northeast Asia.
Furthermore, it will encourage the city’s six concessionaires to establish tourism promotion offices in major global tourism markets. Leveraging the network of China’s overseas missions, efforts will be made to strengthen and expand overseas tourism promotion.
