SJM Resorts, S.A. has confirmed that it will close one of its last remaining satellite casinos, Casino Fortuna, at 11:59pm next Tuesday 9 December 2025.
This leaves the future of only Landmark Casino, also located in the NAPE area of the Macau peninsula, to be determined with all other satellites having since closed their doors. Inside Asian Gaming noted earlier this year that Fortuna and Landmark were considered the two largest revenue generators of the 11 satellites in operation at that time.
In an announcement, SJM said it will redeploy all gaming tables and gaming machines currently operating at Fortuna to other self-promoted casinos of the company to continue serving customers. Those customers holding chips, deposits or cash rebates accumulated at Casino Fortuna and that remain unredeemed after closure can visit other self-promoted casinos operated by SJM from 10 December 2025 onwards for follow-up arrangements, with all customer entitlements to be duly honored, it added.
Likewise, all local employees employed by SJM Resorts at Casino Fortuna will remain employed and be reassigned to other casinos of the company to undertake gaming-related roles according to operational needs. Those not directly employed by SJM Resorts will be invited to apply for related vacancies within the group with priority in hiring under equal circumstances. The DICJ stated in a seperate announcement that there are a total of 553 employees at Fortuna.
“As always, the company remains committed to fulfilling its corporate responsibilities and contributing to the stable development of Macau’s gaming sector in partnership with the local community,” SJM said.
As per government stipulation, all satellite casinos must either close their doors or be wholly-acquired by a Macau concessionaire by the end of this year. SJM recently announced a deal to acquire satellite casino L’Arc although a similar plan to acquire Ponte 16 ultimately fell through.
