Sands China announced on Monday the official launch of the “Sands Responsible Gaming Academy” under the Sands China Academy, and at the same time signed a Memorandum of Understanding on responsible gaming cooperation with the University of Macau.
The Sands China Academy currently comprises eight specialized colleges: MICE, hospitality, integrated resort management, entertainment, facilities, responsible gaming, procurement and retail.
At the launch ceremony for the “Sands Responsible Gaming Academy”, Sands emphasized its aim to further enhance employee and community awareness of responsible gaming, advocating for maintaining a healthy and rational approach to gaming activities.
Simultaneously, Sands China and the University of Macau signed the MOU on responsible gaming under which both parties aim to deepen industry-academia-research collaboration, including research exchanges, talent training and localized practices. They will also align with the SAR Government’s policies to promote public education and enhance societal understanding of responsible gaming.
Sands China became the first gaming operator in Macau to introduce a “Self-Exclusion Program” as early as 2004. Since 2007 it has been a pioneer in integrating responsible gaming training into its company-wide team member orientation program.
The launch ceremony featured a graduation certificate presentation for the “RG360 Macau Responsible Gaming Specialist Ambassador Course”. Co-organized by Sands China and the University of Macau’s Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming (ISCG), the program covers case studies, cultural communication and service response techniques. It aims to cultivate employees into responsible gaming promoters with professional knowledge and practical skills.
Participants must complete both introductory and advanced courses to receive relevant certification from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV).
