With the continuous increase in Korean visitors, the Korean market has become a significant source of international tourists for Macau. Recognizing this trend, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) has partnered with the Korean tourism industry to launch a “Macao edition” debit card, aiming to further expand the Korean tourist market.
The MGTO stated that it has partnered with two Korean companies, KB Kookmin Card and Mastercard Korea, to unveil the first ever “KB Kookmin Travelers Check Card – Macao Edition”.
KB Kookmin Card, a subsidiary of KB Financial Group, is one of Korea’s leading credit card companies, providing a wide range of financial services, including travelers debit cards, increasingly used by Koreans when travelling abroad.
Beyond the standard benefits of the KB Kookmin Travel Debit Card, the “Macao edition” provides card users access to exclusive privileges for Macau tourism related products.
Furthermore, through collaboration with major Macau tourism enterprises and merchants, the card gives access to discounts on designated bookings online for air tickets and hotels, as well as benefits while in the city such as dining and entertainment activities like residency shows.
Macau welcomed 382,494 South Korean visitors through September this year, marking a 12% year-on-year increase with visitor numbers continuing to grow. Flight frequencies between Macau and South Korea are also becoming increasingly frequent.
The MGTO emphasized its ongoing efforts to cultivate the Korean market. Earlier this summer, it launched a large-scale tourism promotion campaign targeting Millennial and Gen Z young travelers to visit Macau.
It has also invited popular Korean KOLs (Key Opinion Leaders) to participate in events in Macau to enhance the city’s visibility and continue expanding the Korean visitor market, one of Macau’s key international markets.
