SJM Holdings said Monday it would shutter another of its satellite casinos, Casino Emperor Palace, ahead of schedule at 11:59pm this Thursday 30 October 2025.
Moments after Galaxy Entertainment Group revealed it would shutter Waldo casino on Friday, SJM released a statement of its own in which it revealed that, following comprehensive business planning and commercial considerations, it had mutually agreed and entered into a termination agreement with Tin Hou Limited – an indirect wholly-owned subsidiary of Emperor Entertainment Hotel Limited. Upon termination, Tin Hou will cease to provide casino management services to SJM and Casino Emperor Palace will cease operations.
All gaming tables and gaming machines currently operating at Casino Emperor Palace will subsequently be redeployed to other casinos run by SJM Resorts while impacted employees will be reassigned.
Local employees working at Casino Emperor Palace who are not directly employed by SJM Resorts will also be invited to apply for related vacancies within the group and will be provided with the necessary support to facilitate a smooth transition, SJM said.
Hong Kong-listed Emperor E Hotel, which owns and operates Grand Emperor Hotel where the casino is located, stated in a filing, “The Group has been actively planning for other entertainment and amusement facilities for enhancing the hospitality experience in Grand Emperor Hotel in order to broaden the revenue base. The Group remains optimistic about the prospects for Macau’s tourism sector, and will continue enhancing its offerings to capture the business opportunities. The Board shall explore suitable opportunities to utilize its financial resources with an aim of expanding its hospitality business.”
SJM operated nine satellite casinos at the start of this year but announced on June 9 that it would not renew their leases beyond 31 December 2025. It announced the closure of another satellite venue – Grandview Casino – on 31 July.
With Emperor Palace Casino closing this week, the remaining satellite casinos under SJM that have not yet closed are Casa Real Casino, Casino Fortuna, Kam Pek Paradise Casino, Landmark Casino and Legend Palace. SJM has previously outlined its intention of acquiring Ponte 16 and L’Arc and making them wholly-owned operations.
