Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s new private hospital at Macau integrated resort Studio City, iRad Imaging and Diagnostic Medical Center, officially opened Monday, marking what the company describes as a new chapter for Macau’s medical tourism industry.

Occupying approximately 15,000 square feet on the second floor of Studio City – adjacent to its expansive water park – the hospital integrates modern medical technology with a resort-inspired ambience to deliver a comfortable and efficient diagnostic experience, according to Melco.

Studio City, Macau

Dennis Tam, President and Chief Executive Officer of Black Spade and Honorary Chairman of iRad, explained that the new facility is dedicated to “health screening, diagnostic imaging, aesthetic medicine, longevity treatments and medical concierge services”. It will establish a suite of premium medical services, seamlessly integrating healthcare with tourism.

As Macau’s fourth private hospital, iRad is equipped with comprehensive diagnostic and treatment facilities, including Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI), Computed Tomography (CT) scans, mammography, ultrasound, X-ray examinations and a specialist pharmacy. It also features dedicated operating theaters aimed at delivering professional and secure clinical services to both local residents and visitors.

The establishment of the hospital also positions Studio City as the world’s only integrated resort offering gaming, leisure entertainment, F&B and hospital services.

Tam said that iRad will focus on “medical tourism” as its development direction, striving to integrate medical services with the travel experience.

“Macau welcomes nearly 39 million visitors annually, presenting a significant advantage for promoting medical tourism. We aim to leverage the Studio City brand to offer visitors more comprehensive health options,” he explained.

Tam further highlighted that medical aesthetics is one of the hospital’s key strengths. The facility has introduced multiple world-class medical aesthetic devices and adopted South Korean medical aesthetic standards to ensure both safety and international quality.

“South Korea is Asia’s capital of medical aesthetics and we aim to bring this expertise to Macau,” he said. “Here, visitors can enjoy world-class entertainment and leisure while also experiencing top-tier medical and aesthetic services.”

All doctors and nurses at iRad are currently local Macau professionals who regularly travel to South Korea for relevant training to enhance their medical aesthetic techniques and management capabilities. In future, the hospital will introduce specialist physicians from South Korea to advance the professionalization and internationalization of Macau’s medical aesthetics industry.

At Monday’s opening ceremony, Melco Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho stated, “By launching the world’s first and Macau’s only hospital with MRI and CT facilities within an integrated resort, we strive to contribute to the advancement of medical tourism in Macau.

“This project aligns with the SAR government’s ‘1+4’ economic diversification strategy. Our goal is to provide guests with world-class, integrated entertainment and health options.”

Established in 2006 and headquartered in Hong Kong, iRad specializes in providing advanced medical imaging services. The group operates seven medical centers in Hong Kong with over 140 professional team members. In March 2021, Black Spade Capital – controlled by the family of Lawrence Ho – formally became the controlling shareholder of iRad.
