Around 100 volunteers from Melco Resorts & Entertainment gathered to assist the local Macau community in the aftermath of Super Typhoon Ragasa this week, the company said.
As reported by IAG, authorities hoisted the highest No. 10 typhoon warning signal on Wednesday with Ragasa bringing hurricane-force winds and significant flooding to low-lying areas across the city.
On Thursday, Melco volunteers – operating under the company’s “Simple Acts of Kindness” initiative – together with the company’s community partners, dedicated their time and efforts to help communities and small businesses across various locations in Macau, helping to bring back a safe and clean environment for those affected by the typhoon.
Melco’s volunteer teams were deployed to various impacted locations to provide relief and support. These included the Southern District where, In collaboration with the Macao Federation of Trade Unions (FAOM), 30 Melco volunteers assisted residents and SME businesses impacted by the flooding. Volunteers helped return displaced items, removing garbage and debris and restoring safe and clean environments in the area.
At Praia do Manduco they partnered with the General Union of Neighbourhood Associations of Macau (UGAMM) to distribute meal boxes to the local community members, including the elderly, who were affected by power outages caused by flooding.
In Coloane Coastal Areas, Melco volunteers, together with the FAOM team, provided help to residents and SMEs with post-typhoon clean-up assistance, helping to secure loose fixtures and providing handyman support to those in need.
At Coloane’s Asilo Vila Madalena Elderly Center, Melco volunteers also helped clean-up the center’s garden areas, removing fallen trees and branches, recovering outdoor furniture and items displaced during the typhoon and ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for the elderly residents.
And at Anima Dog Shelter, another group of Melco’s volunteers offered their help in cleaning up fallen trees and the removal of garbage and debris in the aftermath of Ragasa to help bring back a safe and clean environment for the animals under the shelter’s care.
