Following the closure of Melco’s satellite casino Grand Dragon on Monday, Macau gaming regulator, the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau (DICJ), has also confirmed the successful shuttering of one of the concessionaire’s slot machine clubs – Mocha Kuong Fat.
“Following the closure of Mocha Kuong Fat at 11:59pm on 24 September, the DICJ implemented the respective suspension process, actively coordinating with various departments, monitoring the evacuation of the respective premises, among other things,” the DICJ said. “The casino closure occurred in an orderly manner.
“The closure was coordinated by the DICJ with close interdepartmental collaboration, thus ensuring legal compliance and orderly processing.
“The DICJ will continue to optimize its inspection mechanism, promoting the regularization and healthy and orderly development of the gaming industry as well as creating more favorable conditions for the adequate diversification of Macau’s economy.”
Melco confirmed earlier this year that it would permanently close Grand Dragon as well as three of its Mocha Clubs venues by the end of this year. Last week it revealed that Grand Dragon and Mocha Kuong Fat would shut down this week. The closure dates for Mocha Grand Dragon Hotel and Mocha Royal Hotel will be announced in due course, it added.
The closure of Grand Dragon was completed on Tuesday morning, shortly before Typhoon Ragasa hit Macau.
Regarding arrangement for its satellite staff and gaming machines, Melco previously stated, “Staff will be reassigned to other Melco casinos and gaming areas as operational needs dictate to ensure job stability and a smooth transition.
“Gaming machines at the Mocha Clubs that are closing will be reallocated to the Altira, City of Dreams and Studio City casinos operated by Melco Resorts (Macau) Limited in the Macao SAR.”
