Leading Philippines eGames provider DigiPlus Interactive Corp is said to be looking at acquiring a land-based casino in order to provide greater diversification to its business given regulatory uncertainty around the online space.
According to The Manila Standard, DigiPlus has been in talks to acquire an unnamed casino, although it added that those talks have stalled for now given the need for greater clarity around the online industry’s future.
“PLUS was really looking at acquiring also actual gaming bricks and mortar,” the outlet quoted a source as stating. “They already have a lot of money.”
The growth of the Philippines’ iGaming industry, also known as eGames, began during the pandemic when regulator PAGCOR authorized land-based operators to offer online gaming to their members as a means of generating revenues.
This initially began with the emergence of remote gaming by which customers can access and play real slot machines and gaming tables that are located within the casino premises but from a remote setting. More recently, operators have been increasingly moving into the RNG space for their online offering.
The eGames sector saw revenues hit a record Php69 billion (US$1.2 billion) in the first seven months of 2025, according to recent PAGCOR figures. However, a recent ban on all out-of-home advertising of online gambling sites and on e-wallet providers linking to gambling sites could see that growth slow in the coming months.
