SkyCity Entertainment Group announced Wednesday that it has now launched mandatory carded play across all of its New Zealand casinos, with players now required to acquire a “SHOW by SkyCity” card that verifies their identity and provides new safeguards for their play.
Under the carded play system, gaming customers will need a card for all machine and table gaming although they can still use cash, QUICK Pay or Tito tickets when playing. Sign-up, which requires a legal form of photo ID, can be done online or at any of SkyCity’s New Zealand casinos, the company explained.
“Carded play gives us the tools to better support our customers. We can make earlier interventions where needed and ensure gaming remains a safe and enjoyable experience,” said SkyCity’s Chief Operating Officer, Callum Mallett.
“We’re proud to lead the industry in building a safer, more sustainable future for gaming in Aotearoa New Zealand.”
Mallett added that the new “SHOW by SkyCity” card allows SkyCity to monitor gameplay patterns and encourage safer gaming behaviours, with key features including prompted and mandatory breaks, and daily and weekly limits applied to all forms of game play.
“Our players all play differently, across different products,” he said. “Our previous approach supported safe play within an anonymous system, but carded play takes that commitment further. It allows us to identify patterns of concern earlier and encourage breaks before harm occurs, giving us better tools to support our customers in real time.”
SkyCity said the rollout of carded play began in Queenstown and Hamilton earlier this month and was completed in Auckland on Tuesday.
