Macau’s Tourism Development Committee has revealed that the SAR’s visitor numbers rose by 15% year-on-year to 19.2 million in the first half of the year, recovering to 95% of 2019 levels.
The Committee held its first meeting of the year on Tuesday at which it released provisional tourism data. From January to June, a total of 19.2 million visitors were recorded, with approximately 1.34 million international visitors, representing a year-on-year increase of nearly 15%. South Korea, the Philippines and Indonesia currently rank as the top three international source markets for Macau.
Meanwhile, the average hotel occupancy rate for the first six months of the year increased by 5.8 percentage points year-on-year to 89.8%.
The meeting also introduced the Macau government’s key tourism plans for the second half of 2025. The Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) will launch promotional offers targeting international visitors, including discounts on air tickets, cross-border transportation, hotel accommodations and dining and entertainment, it said.
It will also organize large-scale roadshows in Lisbon, Portugal; Jakarta, Indonesia; and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to continue expanding the market and encouraging visitor spending.
The 1H25 tourist numbers follow a recent statement by the Public Security Police Force highlighting that the number of inbound visitors had surpassed 20 million for the year at 11am on 8 July – 26 days earlier than last year – with an average of 106,000 visitors per day.
MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes stated during an interview last week that Macau is expected to see a peak in inbound visitors in August, with an estimated average of 110,000 visitors per day during July and August.
