The number of visitor arrivals to Macau in 2025 has officially exceeded 20 million, with the milestone coming some 26 days earlier than last year, according to information from the Public Security Police Force (PSP).
The 20 million figure had been surpassed as of 11am on Tuesday 8 July, representing a daily average of 106,000 arrivals since the start of the year. In 2024 the milestone was reached on 3 August.
Among the 20 million arrivals, visitors from mainland China have accounted for the highest share at 71.6%, followed by Hong Kong visitors at 19.1% and Taiwan visitors with 2.4%. Foreign visitors have accounted for 6.9% of the total.
The PSP also revealed that the Gongbei Border Gate remains the most popular entry point with 41% of arrivals, followed by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge at 24.1% and Hengqin Port at 13.5%.
In January, the Macao Government Tourism Office (MGTO) projected that annual visitor arrivals in 2025 would range from 38 million to 39 million.
In an interview on Tuesday, MGTO Director Maria Helena de Senna Fernandes pointed out that after the release of the figure of 20 million visitors, this year’s forecast would be re-examined and the trend of visitors for the coming summer holidays would be taken into account.
“In the second half of the year, authorities will ensure summer holiday arrivals through various activities and promotions while continuing to attract international visitors,” she said.
Senna Fernandes also revealed that the MGTO would conduct roadshows in Lisbon, Portugal and Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia in September and October with a view to attracting more international visitors to Macau.
